In 1997, James joined Zion Dominion Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Roderick L. Hennings, and on August 28, 2005, he was ordained as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ. In 2016, James founded "Upon This Rock Ministry," where he serves as pastor. He also serves as an ordained Elder at New Beginnings Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Robert J. Lowe.
